This is the space designated for the garden at the edge of the existing flower bed. We have planted lettuce, peas, swiss chard, beets, carrots, cherry tomatoes, green zebra heirloom tomatoes, cauliflower, tomatillos, chives and watermelon. Once things start getting established I am going to add garlic in various spots because it helps to keep pests away.
The lettuce on the right was planted 10 days before the smaller lettuce on the left. It won't be long until we can start enjoying this lettuce. As we pick, we plant in the void spaces to ensure we have fresh lettuce until the fall.
These are flowers on the green zebra tomatoes. They are an heirloom variety and I am anxious to see how they taste. I hope to save some seeds and start them early next year. My grandparents saved seeds and I want to be able to do the same, especially with heirloom varieties.
This is one lone pea coming up. Others should be joining it soon.
I am very excited about the tomatillos. They are tart and fresh. I had my first one last summer at a friends house, and I am very excited to grow my own this year.
